Vellum Luminaries – Tutorial

Way back in July I made a Card and some Luminaries for the Just Add Winter Challenge (JAI # 125). I had several people ask me about how I made them so I have put together this tutorial for you.

They are quick and easy to make, are great for decorating tables, mantles and also make cute little personalized gifts.

The steps I used to make these luminaries and my dimensions are as follows……

Step 1
I started with 1 piece of Night of Navy card stock that makes the base of the luminary and a piece of Vellum that makes the sides.
My dimensions are as follows:
1 – 3“ x 3” . I scored this at ½” on each side.
1 – 4” x 8.5” – score this at 2”, 4”, 6” and 8”’s

Step 2
Cut slits into each side of the Night of Navy card stock and crease to make your box shape. Using sticky strip put the box together.DSC09990 (3).DSC09991 (3)DSC00011 (2) DSC00012 (2)

Step 3
Stamp your Vellum. I have used the Lovely as a Tree stamp set with Night of Navy Ink.  But they can be stamped to suit the occasion you are making them for.DSC09994

Step 4
Fold and crease your vellum along the score lines – so it makes the outside box shape.  Run some sticky strip down the ½” section – this goes on what will be the outside of the luminary (but don’t stick it together yet).DSC00018

Step 5
Run a strip of sticky strip around the outside edge of the luminary base.

Starting with the ½” section of the vellum, stick the vellum around the base.

Step 6
Remove the sticky strip from the side of the vellum and stick the vellum wall together.DSC09999

Your luminary is now complete and you can decorate it with ribbon (which also hides your sticky strip at the bottom and add a small embellishment if you wish.

I use the battery operated tea lights in mine – which are very safe.

JAI # 118 – Just Add Mae!

Yay – it’s time to honor one of our fabulous Design Team Members as Just Add Ink.  This week we are being inspired by Mae Collins.

Mae’s projects are full of wonderful shapes and colours.  We both share a love for the Stamp Set Just Believe – so I have CASE’d one of her Cards that uses it.   Here is Mae’s card:

I really like the technique that Mae used and the colours too……so they also feature in my Card.

Here is mine:

I’ve done a Centre Step card – this is the first time I have done one – and really love the effect.  I added a few butterflies and a bit of lace ribbon.  You probably can’t see it – but I spritzed the Butterflies with Shimmer Mist too.

Visit Just Add Ink here to see the other projects inspired by Mae.  And remember to have a go yourself and share it with us.

Also – you may have noticed that I did not post my JAI Project from last week – I meant to….but I was just busy and tired and felt I needed a little rest…….so did not get round to it.  Never mind.

The JAI challenge last week was a Colour Challenge – So Saffron, Daffodil Delight and Whisper White.  Oh Man! I thought this was gonna be hard – but it actually came together quite nicely.

I made this Card and Candle cover – and I also made a matching Bag.  They were part of a Gift for my friend Charlene who had a birthday recently.  I really liked how they came out.

JAI # 116 – Just Add…..Mothers Day

It’s May – and that means Mother’s Day.  So we at Just Add Ink are celebrating Mum’s by having a Just Add Mothers Day Challenge.  I decided to create a Card and matching Gift for this Challenge.

I managed to get a scented Candle that closely matched my Card stock.  The Colours are Certainly Celery, Melon Mambo, Bashful Blue and Very Vanilla.  This stamp set is a retired one and is called Soft Summer.  It’s a lovely 2 step stamping set.

I love creating gifts and cards that match – if you want to have a go to, this is the perfect challenge for it.  Once you have put your ideas together – go to Just Add Ink and upload your challenge.  While your there check out all the other fabulous projects that we have put together for our Mum’s.

Birthday Cards

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One of the wonderful things about being a Card Maker and Stamper is that at special times I receive loads of beautiful cards.  It was my Birthday at the end of last month and I was surprised with an array of very special cards – I thought I would share them with you too.

Aren’t they all beautiful?  Thank you to all of you.

It really made my Birthday wonderful – so exciting to get the mail in each day (for a few weeks) and find so many wonderful surprises.
It also inspires me to explore new techniques, colour combos and ideas.
And….. there are more beautiful Birthday Cards here some where….but embassassingly I have to admit I have misplaced them!  Weird I know.  But I had a few of them that I was looking at the thinking about and mulling over.  As in – I was using them for inspiration for something I was doing.  But when I went to do this post I could not find them…..stached them somewhere special I imagine!!

Klass Act Team Dinner

I had a great night out with the ladies from A Klass Act last night.  Usually when we get together – we are stamping (and it’s during the day).  It was great to go out for a lovely meal too.

We still combined it with Stamping by making and giving Secret Santa gifts.  That was fun too.  We are a talented group of ladies and made some beautiful gifts for each other.

I received I lovely box of Chocolates.

This was made by Alisha.  It’s very clever cause it has a window in the Box and lid…..so you can see the yummy contents.  And how about that Ribbon?  It’s the really beautiful 1 1/4″ Striped Grosgrain and perfect for tying round a box like this.

We were also given this cute little Bouche made with the Two-Step Owl Punch.

They were made by Michelle and this is a pic that she took of them altogether.

I put together a gift box and filled it with girly things…..Shoes & Handbags.  Inside the Shoe is a Nail Polish and File.  And the Handbag had Stampin Bits and Pieces inside.

Birthday Book Class

On Wednesday night – we did a Birthday Book Class.  The ladies have been asking me to do this for quite some time – so we had a very full table.

I decided to use the Elegant Soiree Papers – because I really love the colours.  They are Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla & Basic Grey.

I used the Big Shot and Timeless Type Junior Alphabet to write the word Birthdays.  On the inside we used different colours to decorate the pages.

Once it is all Stamped and folded up we bound it together with a coil binding.  Then attached some ribbons.  The way we folded it created little pockets to put cards in for each month.

I had to laugh actually – cause I often stamp away on my own and then within a very short time find I have a major mess everywhere.  On Wednesday night when every body started making their Birthday Books we had a mess within minutes………so I decided to take a pic of the table so you could see.

From Bottom left going round the table the ladies are……… Virginia, Alison, Gayle, Kerry, Janet, Jenny & Michelle.

And from the other end of the table……from Centre of pic, Kerry, Janet, Jenny, Michelle, Virgina, Alison and Gayle.

Tea Light Class

Hey – great class last night.  I had so much fun putting the projects together beforehand – and then enjoyed seeing the ladies do them too.  The class was based around decorating or making little Tea light holders.

The first project we did involved decorating some wax tea lights and putting them in a little box.  This is a great little project and makes a fantastic little gift.

I have used the Circle Circus Stamp Set with Riding Hood Red, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive.  The little box is made with Old Olive card and decorated with the Haiku DSP.

I’ve done a few of these in the past – and put them in different shaped boxes or done them with 3 x Tea lights and a mini hand cream.  Great gift idea!!

For our second project – I let the ladies GO WILD!!  So we ended up with a selection of Tea Light Holders.  Here are the ones I did.

I know they are slightly different……but that is cause I was messing round with the design a bit.  Anyway – I have used Inspired by Nature in Night of Navy with Navy Ribbon and Cardstock.

Here are the ladies fabulous Tea Light Holders.

Team Day for A Klass Act

Yesterday we had our quarterly Team Day.  It was great to go and quickly catch up with lots of Stamping Friends.  I say quickly because I had to run away early due to work commitments.

We had some great projects to work on – although my pic’s of them are not that great – but I’ll still show you anyway.

First up was a great card from Louise Layton.I liked doing this project – because I got to have a go with the Big Shot – which I had never done before, so that was exciting.  The Tree thingy is coloured using the Thumping Technique – which is great for multi coloured images – very effective – don’t you think?

The Stamp Sets  we used here are all so ones I had not used before – Pendant Park & Teeny Tiny Sentiments which are both in the current Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue.

Our Second Project was a fabulous Scrap page by Sarah Klass.
We got to make these fab little flowers from a small square of card….they are so lovely.  The Stamp set is Baroque Motifs which is one of my favourites.  I just have to decide what Pic’s I am going to add to this page.

Our last project was a little box – that is a case of one sent to me by one of my Secret Sisters Jenny Adams.  Loved it so much I thought I would have a go at making one.

We used the Cottage Wall DSP and Vintage Vogue Stamp from the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue.

Below is a pic of the Bundle of Goodies I received from Jenny Adams – so you can see where I got the idea from.

It was a beautiful pack of goodies and I was very spoilt.  Inside the box was the Passion Fruit Body Butter – that not only is divine – but also matches these papers and colours perfectly.  How about that!!

Gift Bag with Pocket

Today I am showing you another of the Unconvention Projects.  This one was presented to us by Caroline Colgan.  I really enjoyed doing it – and decided to do it in a class too.

This is the one I did for Un-convention in May.

It’s a lovely project because the Pocket on the front of the Bag holds a little Card & Envelope that you can make to match.  I filled this with a few goodies and then gave it to my friend Michelle.   Luckily – she is also one of my Card Class Ladies…..cause after I gave it to her I said…..”Um – can I borrow the bag back in a few weeks to show as a class project”!!   She laughed.

Last night we did the Class Project – and I am pretty sure the ladies liked them.  They all did different colours.   I did not get a pic of them all – but a do have pics of two more that I have done.

This one I did for MIL’s Birthday.   The decoration design for this I got from one done by my friend Susan Joyce.  I loved it…..Thanks Sue.

I put this together in the Class last night.

Sorry my pic’s are not too good…..but you get the idea, aye?

I’d like the say Thank you to Caroline Colgan for such a great project – that I have made several times now – and I know I will make lots more too.

Farewell to our Dear Puke

My sister and I have kinda joint owned a Puke-cat for quite some time now – but recently she passed away and we will all miss her.

She really belonged to Nadine – who rescued her from a bag of kittens thrown out on the side of the road about 16 years ago.  She was just a little fluff-ball then.  We did not know she would become such a large part of our lives.

About 8 years or so ago (I think) my sister went off travelling and so Puke came to live with me.  She was just such a lovely cat….and did some funny things.  I installed a Cat door – so she could come and go as she liked – but if I was home – she would still sit at the front door and Meow and scratch till I got up and let her in.  Some times I would yell….”GO ROUND THE BACK”!

She was a great hunter and I had to hang a bell on her collar to warn un-suspecting Birds, Mice or Rats – otherwise I would find them in my bedroom, lounge or hallway – often alive!

She loved chasing lights – all around the place – up the walls, furniture and round and round in circles on the floor.  I got a torch for her and if I clicked it on and off she would come running and watch it till I played the torch game with her.

She loved games so much – she had a little toy mouse that she threw around everywhere – and stalked and carried round in her mouth.   If she got a bit bored or was not getting enough attention while we were watching TV so would scratch the lounge room door until someone got the mouse on a string or torch for her to chase.

When I moved to Aussie at the beginning of 2008 – Puke went back to live with Nadine.  We’d loved to have brought her – but I just felt that going to Perth was too bigger move for her – and she was not good at travelling at the best of times and was getting on in years too.

When my Mum was visiting recently – I decided to make and send home to my sister this scrapbooking memory of Puke.
It has pull out photos with space on the back of each one for us to write about the cool things Puke did.

Puke loved to lounge around and show off her fluffy tummy.
She had a pink and white toy mouse she loved to play with. Here she is sitting on the lawn with Sarah.
Puke loved to “Hang Out” – she often used to drape herself over the couch or lie on her back and hang over the edge of the bed or couch.
Bye Bye our Puke.  We will miss you.
