JAI # 163 – A Fun Background

The idea for this weeks challenge was suggested by Nikki – and it’s a darn good one too.  The Design Team have put together some wonderful projects with Fun Backgrounds – a few of which you may want to try.  I certainly loved this Challenge.  Here is my project…..

DSC00125

As you can see, I decided to use some DSP and weave my background.  This is such an effective technique and can be done many ways.  Not only can you use DSP but you can also use plain or embossed card stock or card stock you have stamped (either before or after you have done the weaving).

So show us your Fun Background ideas at Just Add Ink – and also check out the Design Team Members projects.

JAI # 111 – Just Add Easter

Wow – I can’t believe it’s nearly April!  That’s a quarter of the year gone already!
And that means it’s also nearly Easter…… There are thousands of Chocolate Eggs, Bunnies and Easter treats in the shops and I have seen heaps of cute and cuddly ones too.  Personally – I love toasted Hot Cross Buns dripping in melted Butter……yummy.   Anyway – I think I’m getting a bit off track here……hee hee!!

If you haven’t guessed yet – this week it’s Just Add Easter!
I put together a little Easter Basket.  It is actually based on a Template I got from AR Creations………although I have adjusted it a bit to make the bottom of it larger.
I made this out of Wisteria Wonder – which to me is a beautiful Easter Colour.  I stamped it with the Inspired by Nature stamps and made some bright flowers with the Boho Blossoms Punch and some Butterflies with Beautiful Wings.

I also used the Fancy Flower Punch to make a large flower for the top of the box.
This is a great Challenge to encourage you to have a go at making an off the page Easter Basket or box.  Visit Just Add Ink to check out what the Design Team have made.  Happy Easter Everyone.

Just Add Ink # 76 – Inspiration

Now here’s a challenge for you…..it’s an Inspiration Challenge.  That means we at Just Add Ink will show you a Picture and you use it as Inspiration to put your project together.

Here is the Picture…….Makes you hope you were on Holiday aye?

Here is the project I made…………..

My idea was to kinda use the colours and shapes – with the Sea and Sky on the right and the building on the left.  I thought the stitching kinda represented the rought iron bits and the pleated card represented the shutters and the different parts of the building.  The flower represents the flowers around the balcony.  I have been wanting to have a go at pleating some card for sometime.  After making the I made another flower and dressed it up with a bit of ribbon and a tag.

Here is the link to Just Add Ink – so you can have a go too.  And also check out the other wonderful Design Team Creations.

Just Add Ink # 75 – Colour Combo

Just Add Ink has a fantastic Colour Combo for you to try out this week…..I think I will use this colour combo again – cause I really like it.  Here it is…..

I have a little story about what I made this week, which I will get to in a minute.
Firstly though – let me show you what I made using these great colours.  I had been flicking through a few magazines a few weeks ago and saw some pictures that I had marked to use at inspiration at a later date….so I got out one of them and used it.

I stamped and clear embossed the swirly stamp from Baroque Motifs onto some Newsprint DSP and the sponged it with Soft Suede Ink.  I roughed up the edges a bit and then attached it to the Cherry Cobbler card stock.  I used Black Stays On to stamps on some acetate and then cut it so it only covers the bottom of the card.  (It’s probably hard to see here though).
I then used the Sewing Machine to stitch in Black Cotton around the card a few times……and this is where my little story starts…….

I got the Sewing Machine out – I had borrowed – and started to set it up.  After threading it – I started to sew…..but NO – it didn’t work.  All the cotton bunched up at the back.  I knew I must have threaded it wrong…..so started again……but that didn’t work – so I tried again………but that did not work.

Now this went on for some time…….like about a little over an hour!
I’m sure you can imagine how frustrated I was by this time – that’s right – ready to throw something……..but I didn’t.

My Husband then said he was off to bed….but I said I HAVE to finish THIS first!!
And quickly and calmly (although a bit annoyedly) explained what was going on.

Being THE MAN he goes…..Oh well would you like me to have a look?
I was just like……Humrph – if ya want.

And typical – no joke within about 3 or 4 minutes he had a bloomin thing working!!   Darn it!

So – once I had finished stitching – I then added my ribbon, Flower – made from the Fancy Flower, Boho Blossoms and Two-step Bird Punches – and Words.  Then mounted them on the Very Vanilla and Soft Suede Card.

I found these colours just worked so well together.  The Design Team have put together some beautiful projects too.  I hope you have a go at making some thing with them.  Go to Just Add Ink to check out the DT projects and show us yours.

JAI # 60 Colour Combo

Delys has given us a beautiful colour combo to work with this week.  Here is the card I did……

I used Woodgrain for the background.  I punched the Fancy Flower out and then put some DSP behind it.  The Sentiment is from the SAB So Happy for You Stamp Set.

The DT have made such a wonderful variety of Cards to inspire you with some fancy folds and ribbon tricks – so check them out here.  And I have a go of this Colour Challenge.

Shoes & Handbags!

I know there are heaps of you out there that Love Love Love Shoes and Hand bags!  I’m a Hand bag girl…..although I try to keep it under control.

You may have seen on my blog a while ago the little shoe I was given by a Secret Sister….well I loved it.  I did my own version of it.  And then thought it should have a Hand bag to go with it – so I did that too.

Now I decided that we should do it as a Class – so tonight’s class is all about Shoes and Handbags.  Here they are……..

Cute aye??  I have used Basic Black and Pretty in Pink.  The flowers are made with the Fancy Flower Punch.

Here is a set I did for my Secret Sister and friend Susan Joyce a few months ago.

Card Classes

Faux Metal

A few weeks ago at the Stampin Up Perth Regionals – there was a demonstration on Faux Metal.  It was quite timely for me – because this week I had scheduled a Faux Metal Class.

I’d done one last year or the year before – but it was time to revisit the technique.

We made 2 cards.  The first card is using Riding Hood Red – which is such a lovely colour.

We used the Baroque Motifs swirly stamp on the Faux Metal Flowers and in the background.  Behind the flowers we used the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing folders that we sponged with Whisper White Ink.

For our second Card, we used the Heart Stamp from the Always stamp set.

The colours are Crumb Cake, Marina Mist & Early Espresso.  Don’t you love that 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon??  I do.

New Products Class

Tonight we did Cards using some of the Products from the New Catalogue.

First up we used the new Greenhouse Gala  DSP and Whisper White Organaza Ribbon to make this card.

The ladies LOVE this ribbon – it’s lovely and smooth satin in the middle.

The Ink colours are Baja Breeze, Pumpkin Pie & Chocolate Chip.  Pocket  Silhouettes Stamp Set.

Here is our Second card

The Extra Large Fancy Flower Punch is cool…..we also crimped these flowers and stamped the card too.  We also used the Newsprint DSP on this card.

Colours are Basic Black, Real Red and Very Vanilla.

JAI #31 Colour Challenge

It’s a Colour Challenge at Just Add Ink this week – great colours too.

I was not sure what I was going to do with this….. I ended up taking inspiration from three places.

  • The colours
  • A card I received from my USA Secret Sister (for the lay out)
  • Thirdly…. the New Catalogue pre-view goodies I received.

Once I combined them all I came up with this.

The Stamp Set I have used in Vintage Vogue.  And I have used the Fancy Flower (extra-large) punch – which is coming to a Catalogue near you soon!

So – go check out the challenge and have a go.  The Just Add Ink Design Team girls have made some beautiful cards and projects this week – check them out.
